Every year in March and April, Handa Opera put on a stunning masterpiece with the Sydney Harbour Bridge as the perfect backdrop. in 2019, West Side Story is brought to life only minutes walk from The Russell Boutique Hotel.

The story continues, with a theatrical production of West Side Story in season at the Sydney Opera House during Winter. A beautiful walk from the Opera House, past The Russell Hotel in The Rocks, down to Walsh Bay and you will reach the Sydney Theatre Company’s Roslyn Packer Theatre.

In the city centre and only minutes taxi or train away from The Russell is the ornate State Theatre, nicknamed the Palace of Dreams when it opened in 1929. Another grand 1920s venue is the Capitol Theatre in Haymarket, a short walk from delicious Chinatown. The ICC Sydney hosts some of the world’s most famous musicians and is located a quick ferry ride away in Darling Harbour, and the Sydney Lyric is in neighbouring Pyrmont.
